WHY DO WE NEED TRAFFIC ROAD SAFETY

With respect to the rapid strides in developing Pakistan’s economy, the number of vehicles on road are ever increasing. With regards to this need, demand for a stable infrastructure is at all-time high.

The economic cost of road crashes and injuries is estimated to be over 100 billion rupees.

Pakistan has spent $0.07 per capita (0.015% of GDP/capita) on road safety in 1998 whereas, Road safety spending comprises a greater share of public spending in countries such as the United Kingdom where the government spend roughly $23 per capita (1980 prices) on road safety.

Since 1980’s the percentage increase of roads within Pakistan has been 166% Pakistan is ranked at second position (After UAE) among the countries with most accidents occurring annually. Hence the necessity of proper solutions that enhances traffic safety and in particular those that ensure sound traffic guidance has risen.

Properly marked road guides the motorists about road alignment and measurement thus reducing the chance of an accident by keeping them on road. Provides drivers with instructions ensuring safe travel as well as helping driver in navigation of their desired destination.

Crystal reflectors and perfectly round glass beads translate into lesser chance of accidents as compared to plastic reflectors and irregular shaped chinese glass beads.

HOW CAN WE HELP TO MAKE ROADS SAFER

Thermoplastic

High quality white/yellow, granulated, hot melt material that is applied to the road surface in molten form in order to provide highly visible road markings. Outstanding glass beads retention.

  • Low VOCs.
  • Applied at a thickness of 1.5 mm to 3mm.
  • Weather Resistant.

Glass Beads

Potters sphere shaped glass beads utilized in retro reflective road markings that deliver continuous roadway guidance as well as cost effective night time roadway out lining.

  • Clean, transparent & free of bubbles & foreign matters.
  • Truly round spheres ensure ideal embedment of 60% for enhanced
    retro-reflection.
  • Exceeds the industry’s minimum standard of 150 mcd/lux/m2 for light
    intensity at night.

Chlorinated Rubber

Fast drying coating based on a durable alkyd modified chlorinated rubber resin. For marking pavements, car parks, concrete and asphalt surfaces.

  • Resistant to heat of upto 65oC.
  • Ready for traffic within 40 min.
  • Non-toxic dry film.
  • Resistant to rain water.

Runway Marking

Fast drying coating based on modified acrylic.

  • Runway Markings.
  • Zero VOC.
  • Non-toxic dry firm.
  • Resistant to rain water.

ROAD REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE

Asphalt Sealer

Enhance with a latex polymer is the best quailty rubberized blacktop filler and sealer. Designed for asphlat pavements.

  • Foot traffic ready in just 1 hour.
  • Fast and easy to apply.
  • Heavy vehicle load resistant formula.

Reflectors ( Road Studs)

Light rays striking on glass reflectors get reflected to original source in order to guide traffic in the dark.

SELF PROPELLED ROAD MARKING MACHINE

Use of Self Propelled Automated line lazer machine allows us to automate the entire process of road line marking. The machine enhances speed, productivity and accuracy through automatic layout feature allowing us to complete the project in a shorter span of time with higher precision. The machine processes the capability to complete 6-8 kms/hr for chlorinated rubber for a 6″ to 12” wide strip whereas for thermoplastic it completes about 4-5 kms/hr as compared to the traditional machines that have the capability to complete 2.5km/8 hours. The real-time dashboard panel on the lazer line machine allows the worker to monitor and ensure uniform dispersion of glass beads on the road.

ROAD MARKING THICKNESS GAUGE

The NHA Standard states 0.8 to 1.5 mm thickness for pavement marking on highway in Pakistan. However, if this required thickness is not achieved, it can not only adversely affect the durability of the marking but also lead to less than ideal embedment of glass beads. Reduced retro reflectivity hence results into the failure of the coating to perform its desired function of saving lives on the road. Chemserve is the first paint company in Pakistan to use dry film thickness meter to digitally check the thickness of pavement marking in Pakistan. The Conventional method of checking thickness of pavement marking involved peeling the marking and checking it with Vernier caliper to ensure thickness at different spots on the road. However, the digital thickness meter is much more accurate and ensures a non-destructive method to give accurate results in seconds.

FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO VISIBLITY OF A SIGN

LUMINANCE

The amount of light received from a sign or marking

CONTRAST

The ratio of luminance from the marking to luminance from its surroundings.
(A better measure than luminance)

COLOURS

The color of highway marking signs are specified for different purposes. (Red for stop, yellow for wearing, black for information). it increases the perceived contrast of the sign with its surround.

CONSPICUITY

Probability that a driver will notice a certain sign at a certain distance
(cannot quantify it)

LEGIBILITY

Probability that a driver will understand the message a road delineation or sign is meant to convey. (Even lesser tangible)

VISIBILITY DISTANCE

The range at which a marking or sign can be seen (no gurantee though)

METHODOLOGY

The quality of road and application conditions are evaluated by our team of engineers before start of work at any project. No paint application is done on fresh asphalt and we recommended at least a time of 7 days after asphalt laying to ensure on black marks and superior quality of work. Our Thermoplastic Paint has a softening point of 105oC which is well above the softening point of Thermoplastic manufactured by any of our competitor. High softening point ensures that paint does not soften on road in days with highest possible temperature during summer and hence there are no dirt or tire marks on the coatin g after exposure to traffic.
